In 1986, 22-year-old actress Rani Padmini and her 46-year-old mother, Indirakumari, were discovered stabbed to death inside their Chennai residence. The investigation led to the arrest of their driver, G Jebaraj, watchman Lakshmi Narasimhan, and cook Ganeshan, who were charged with the murders for the purpose of robbery. While all three were initially handed death sentences, the court later commuted the punishment to life imprisonment for Jebaraj and Narasimhan, while Ganeshan was cleared of all charges.
