700-year-old banyan tree discovered in Bihar, scientists confirm
Researchers have discovered a banyan tree (Ficus benghalensis) in Munger that is approximately 700 years old, making it the oldest accurately dated specimen of its kind. The team determined the tree's age by analyzing cellulose samples through high-precision Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) radiocarbon dating, followed by calibration using OxCal software. According to the researchers, this scientific approach could assist authorities in identifying and preserving historically significant trees.
