West Bengal CM declares ₹10,000 monthly allowance for Emergency-era detainees
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has introduced a monthly pension scheme of ₹10,000 for 325 individuals who were imprisoned for demonstrating during the Emergency. While unveiling the initiative, Adhikari stated that the current state administration is built upon the principles of these courageous individuals. The Emergency was officially imposed at midnight on June 25, 1975, following a directive from then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
