Utility and courier firms to use 1601-series for official calls
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has mandated that companies in the utility, logistics, and courier industries must use 1601-series numbers for service and transactional phone calls. These numbers will be assigned straight to the qualified businesses following a verification process, rather than through third-party intermediaries. At present, the 1600-series is reserved for transactional and service-related communications from government bodies and banks.
