US Navy destroyer stranded for 4 days in South China Sea after power outage

Last month, the guided-missile destroyer USS Benfold experienced a generator malfunction that cut its power for four days while in the South China Sea. The 10,000-tonne vessel was left unable to navigate on its own, and the blackout knocked out critical systems such as air conditioning, kitchen galleys, toilets, and access to drinking water. The warship was eventually brought to the Philippines by a tow for necessary repairs.
