Official government figures show that the national debt of the United States has surpassed $40 trillion for the first time. This figure has more than doubled in under ten years. During Donald Trump’s two presidential terms, the debt increased by $11.6 trillion, while it grew by $8.4 trillion throughout Joe Biden’s time in office. At present, the total federal debt is approximately 20% higher than the yearly economic output of the US.
