An announcement regarding a 0.3% merchant discount rate (MDR) on UPI transactions amounting to ₹2,000 and above is likely to be made in the next two weeks, sources informed The Financial Express on Thursday. MDR refers to the charge that merchants pay to payment processors to accept digital transactions. Meanwhile, the government has guaranteed that UPI transactions will continue to be free of cost for everyday consumers.
