Europe's ongoing wildfires have led to the creation of pyrocumulonimbus clouds, also known as fire clouds. These develop when extreme heat pushes smoke and moisture deep into the atmosphere. These massive clouds are capable of triggering lightning, strong downdrafts, and abrupt changes in wind patterns. Such weather events often spread flames, change the path of a fire, and even spark additional fires. Notably, a wildfire in Saumos resulted in what is being called the first documented fire cloud in France.
