Understanding BIMSTEC and its purpose

Founded in 1997, the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation, or BIMSTEC, is a regional body. Its membership consists of seven countries: India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Nepal, Bhutan, and Myanmar. The organization was created to foster economic collaboration between nations surrounding the Bay of Bengal, while also addressing issues like poverty, disaster management, and counter-terrorism.
