TRAI wants authority to regulate apps flagging government calls as spam

According to an Economic Times report, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is pushing for legal authority under the IT Act to penalize call management platforms that mark or restrict official 140- and 1600-series numbers as spam. This initiative is aimed at services such as Truecaller, Whoscall, and Hiya. TRAI expressed concerns that crowd-sourced spam reporting might lead to the incorrect blocking of valid service and promotional communications.
