TRAI clarifies: No blocking or tagging for 140 and 1600 series numbers
Following criticism from Truecaller CEO Rishit Jhunjhunwala regarding TRAI's rules on spam tagging for 140 and 1600 series numbers, the regulator has issued a clarification. TRAI stated that 1600 series numbers are specifically set aside for verified calls made by government bodies and regulated financial institutions. Furthermore, it noted that entities using the 140 series are required to register with their respective telecom providers. TRAI emphasized that it does not permit the filtering, blocking, or tagging of 1600 series calls.
