His absence was a protest against the order of songs played, specifically the inclusion of 'Tamil Thai Vazhthu' after Vande Mataram and the national anthem. Vice-Chancellor N Chandrasekar explained that the university followed specific instructions and official circulars sent by the office of Governor Rajendra Arlekar.
