The historical link between Dubai and British India
According to historian Sam Dalrymple, Dubai and several other Gulf areas like Yemen and Oman were previously managed via British India. During that time, British political representatives stationed in the Gulf took their orders from officials in Delhi. The region also relied on Indian currency and military forces. Shortly before India achieved independence in 1947, these Gulf protectorates, including Dubai, were officially detached from British India.
