The 1969 Moon mission: How a plastic pen prevented a disaster
Following the inaugural Moonwalk on July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were returning to the lunar module when Aldrin accidentally snapped the tip off a circuit breaker switch with his gear. To fix the issue, Aldrin inserted a black felt-tip pen into the slot to engage the circuit, which enabled the engine to ignite and allowed the crew to depart the Moon safely. This historic pen was sold at an auction not long ago for $857,600.
