The Tamil Nadu tourism department reported that more than 250 kites were displayed during the three-day 5th international kite festival in Mamallapuram. Over 30 participants from India, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, and Malaysia took part in the event. The festival drew a crowd of more than 40,000 people, offering musical acts and massive kite shows aimed at promoting local tourism.
