Syrian lawmakers convene for first session following Assad's 2024 removal

On Sunday, Syria's legislative body gathered in Damascus for its inaugural session since Bashar al-Assad was removed from power in December 2024. On July 1, President Ahmed al-Sharaa appointed one-third of the 210-member parliament, a group that includes 15 women. Bashar al-Assad had served as Syria's leader for 24 years, succeeding his father, who previously held the presidency.
