Supreme Court mandates extended third-party insurance periods for new vehicles

The Supreme Court has instructed the IRDAI to raise the compulsory third-party insurance duration for brand-new cars from three years to four years. Similarly, the requirement for new two-wheelers has been pushed from five years to six years. The court observed that many vehicles continue to operate without insurance, even though third-party coverage is legally required.
