Supreme Court judge count raised to 38 following Parliament approval
On Wednesday, the Parliament gave its final approval to the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill, 2026, following its passage in the Rajya Sabha. This new law raises the total authorized number of Supreme Court judges, including the Chief Justice of India, from 34 to 38. The legislation is set to replace the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Ordinance, 2026. The Lok Sabha had previously passed the bill via a voice vote on Monday.
