Supreme Court clears two government workers in 30-year-old bribery case

A legal dispute spanning three decades has concluded with the Supreme Court overturning the conviction of two Gujarat government staff members accused of accepting a ₹20 bribe. The case dates back to 1996, when a clerk reportedly asked for a total of ₹120, with ₹100 intended for himself and ₹20 for a peon. Following an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) operation, the ₹20 was discovered on the peon. The Supreme Court ruled that a conviction cannot be upheld based solely on the recovery of cash without clear evidence that a bribe was actually solicited.
