Structural flaws causing capital flight from India, says former RBI Governor Subbarao
Former RBI Governor Duvvuri Subbarao stated that India must prioritize structural reforms over temporary measures to attract foreign investment. He noted that FCNR deposits are essentially borrowed funds that fail to instill long-term market confidence. Subbarao emphasized that the country requires inflows through FDI and FPI to build genuine trust. Since the start of 2026, foreign investors have pulled $17.3 billion out of Indian stocks and debt markets.
