Steps to fix incorrect ITR filing before the August 31 cutoff
If you have filed your ITR using the incorrect form, you still have time to fix it before the August 31 deadline. In cases where the return has not yet been verified, you are able to discard the initial filing through the Income Tax e-Filing portal and proceed to submit a new one with the right form. However, if the return is already verified, you cannot file a fresh original return. In that scenario, you must file a revised return as per Section 139(5) of the Income Tax Act.
