Shaurya Chakra awarded to Navy officer for rescuing crew from blazing LPG tanker
Lieutenant Commander Shivam Kumar has received the Shaurya Chakra for his extraordinary bravery after he repeatedly boarded a burning LPG tanker in the Gulf of Aden to locate missing personnel. While serving on the INS Trikand, Kumar was part of a mission where the Indian warship was dispatched to help a Cameroon-flagged vessel. The tanker had been struck by an explosion in 2025 while traveling through an area targeted by Houthi attacks.
