Serbia faces major spyware campaign targeting civil society

A minimum of 14 Serbian civil society figures, among them student activists who oppose President Vucic, have been hit by sophisticated spyware, such as the Pegasus software from NSO Group. The Share Foundation has labeled this the most significant recorded instance of surveillance in the country. These digital intrusions occurred around the time of the March local elections, sparking concerns that they may have served as a trial for upcoming snap elections in October.
