Scientists earn 'Ig Nobel' award for burying 2,000 pairs of underwear
A team of researchers including Franz Bender, Marcel van der Heijden, Atlant Bieri, and Pia Viviani received the Ig Nobel Prize in Soil Science for a study that involved burying cotton underwear to measure soil quality. For this Swiss-based experiment, 1,000 participants buried 2,000 pairs of briefs. The findings, collected after two months, showed that soil activity was most significantly impacted by how the land was used, with private gardens showing the most decomposition compared to lawns, which showed the least.
