Russia threatens Japan over US missile deployment

Russia has cautioned Japan that it will take 'compensatory countermeasures' if the US deploys its Typhon missile system during the upcoming Orient Shield drills, scheduled for September 8–24. Moscow described the presence of these weapons near its Far Eastern border as 'categorically unacceptable.' The Typhon system is capable of launching Tomahawk cruise missiles, which have a reach of 1,600 km. The military exercises are set to involve approximately 3,700 personnel from the US, Japan, and Australia.
