Researchers find 14 previously unknown gut bacteria in Indian tribal groups

Experts at BRIC-NCCS in Pune have uncovered 14 new species of bacteria and close to 200 indigenous microbial strains during an investigation into the gut health of tribal populations in India. The research team examined the gut microbiomes of eight different tribal groups throughout the country. It was observed that individuals from Trans-Himalayan regions, who consume a diet consisting of rice, wheat, milk, fruits, and leafy greens, exhibited a higher level of diversity in their gut bacteria.
