Research suggests tree-filled neighborhoods may reduce depression in elderly
An Australian study spanning 12 years and involving over 1,000 participants between the ages of 70 and 90 discovered that residing in areas with higher tree density is associated with a decrease in depressive symptoms as time passes. According to the researchers, expanding urban green spaces could promote better aging and enhance the mental health of seniors. These findings were featured in the Journal of Affective Disorders.
