The remains of famous mountaineer Nirmal Purja have been recovered following an avalanche on the 8,047-metre Broad Peak that claimed his life and the lives of nine other climbers. Purja gained global recognition in 2019 for completing the ascent of all 14 of the world's 8,000-metre peaks in just 189 days. The fatal avalanche hit the international group on July 30 while they were scaling the 12th-highest mountain on Earth.
