Globally acclaimed mountaineer Nirmal 'Nimsdai' Purja has passed away following an avalanche on the 8,047-metre Broad Peak, according to a statement from his expedition company. "We have also received confirmation that other members of expedition sadly did not survive," the company said. The avalanche hit the international climbing team on July 30 while they were ascending the 12th-highest mountain in the world.
