Remembering Lt Gen Lakhera and the legacy of 4 Kumaon

Retired Lt Gen Madan Mohan Lakhera, who died on June 29, shared a deep bond with the renowned 4 Kumaon Regiment, which stands as one of the Indian Army's most historic infantry units. This battalion famously secured the nation's inaugural Param Vir Chakra thanks to Major Somnath Sharma’s actions during the 1947 Kashmir conflict. Additionally, the regiment led Operation Meghdoot, marking the first time troops established a position on the Siachen Glacier in 1984.
