REC issues India's inaugural tokenised bonds; HDFC and ICICI participate
Public sector firm REC Limited has successfully secured ₹500 crore via tokenised bonds, representing the first instance of this issuance in India. According to a Moneycontrol report, major lenders including HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, and Yes Bank participated in the purchase. These tokenised bonds function as standard debt instruments, but utilize blockchain technology or distributed ledgers to digitally track ownership rather than relying on conventional market systems.
