The total number of ATMs across India has decreased from 2,18,815 in March 2024 to 2,09,812 by July 2026, marking a reduction of approximately 9,000 units. This trend is linked to the swift growth of digital payment methods, which has led to fewer cash withdrawals and made the upkeep of ATMs less cost-effective. Throughout this timeframe, the total value of transactions conducted at ATMs has also seen a decline of more than 20%, falling to ₹2.20 lakh crore.
