RBI plans trial of plastic notes in ₹10 and ₹20 denominations
According to an NDTV Profit report, the Reserve Bank of India is preparing to test polymer banknotes, starting with the ₹10 and ₹20 denominations. A full-scale introduction across the country might happen by 2027. The central bank's currency printing division has requested global companies to provide expressions of interest for supplying the plastic substrate. It is important to note that these plastic notes are not intended to replace current paper currency already in circulation.
