Railways to build 238 Mumbai AC locals in-house to accelerate production
To fast-track production, the Railways has decided to build 238 new AC local trains for Mumbai across three of its own facilities: ICF Chennai, RCF Kapurthala, and MCF Raebareli. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw explained that the previous procurement method was problematic, as it would have delayed the project until 2030, a timeline he deemed unacceptable. With this updated plan, the inaugural AC local train is expected to be operational by 2027.
