The Punjab government's plan to raise the dearness allowance (DA) from 42% to 60% will impact approximately 85,000 state employees hired after July 17, 2020. This group includes various professionals such as nurses, teachers, constables, clerks, medical officers, health workers, junior engineers, and patwaris. While these employees receive basic pay based on the 7th Pay Commission structure used by the Central government, their DA remains tied to the lower rates set by the Punjab state government.
