Pune: First case registered under Maharashtra's new anti-conversion law

On August 5, Pune Police filed their first FIR under the state's newly enacted Freedom of Religion Act, 2026. The charges involve a 22-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh, who is accused of pressuring a minor he was dating to change her religion. Shortly after this incident, a separate case was opened against a British citizen for reportedly attempting to convert attendees to Christianity during a religious event.
