Pilots' union pushes for 25% random drug testing following Air India pilot's failed screening

The Federation of Indian Pilots has requested that the DGCA implement saliva-based screening for flight crews in addition to existing urine tests. They also proposed increasing the mandatory random drug testing rate from 10% to 25% annually. According to the FIP, broader testing measures would act as a stronger deterrent. The request follows an incident involving an Air India flight from Phuket to Delhi, which experienced a sudden 300-foot drop in altitude, after which the pilot tested positive for marijuana.
