Oxford researchers create tool to forecast statin side effects
Experts at Oxford University have built a new calculator designed to estimate a person's likelihood of experiencing muscle-related issues while taking statins, which are drugs used to reduce unhealthy cholesterol levels. Their research revealed that more than 60% of patients who qualify for statin treatment are currently avoiding it, which could raise their chances of suffering a heart attack. The tool works by evaluating 22 standard health data points.
