Over 300 protected sites in Karnataka are now missing
A digital mapping initiative has revealed that 314 out of Karnataka's 848 government-protected monuments are currently untraceable. Through the Karnataka Digital Heritage project, officials employed 3D laser scanning and digital mapping techniques to catalog these locations. Specialists pointed to factors like urban expansion, site disappearance, lack of maintenance, and inadequate historical documentation as potential causes, while emphasizing the urgency of improving preservation and record-keeping efforts.
