OpenAI says it solved 90-year-old math puzzle in 88 hours
The company behind ChatGPT, OpenAI, reports that it has resolved the Navier-Stokes existence and smoothness problem—a challenge that has remained unsolved for nine decades—in just 88 hours. The task was completed by deploying 10,000 AI agents. This puzzle is recognized as one of the seven Millennium Prize problems. According to OpenAI, the findings demonstrate that finite-time singularities can emerge in smooth fluid motion. The firm noted that the AI agents communicated through three million messages and consumed 130 billion output tokens to reach the solution.
