Onion rates jump 45%; Government restarts Kanda Express

To control the rising cost of onions, the central government is deploying Kanda Express trains. This move follows a 45% year-on-year increase in the average retail price, which has now hit ₹42 per kg, marking a 19% rise compared to the previous month. Onions from the government's buffer stock will be moved from Nashik to cities including Delhi, Chennai, Kochi, and Guwahati. Currently, retail prices have climbed to ₹65 per kg in Delhi and approximately ₹58 per kg in Chennai.
