Oil costs surge 7% following Trump's warning of a 'hard' strike on Iran

Global oil prices climbed by nearly 7% this Wednesday. The increase followed a statement from US President Donald Trump, who warned that the US would respond "hard" to Iran after an alleged surprise attack attempt against American troops. Brent crude futures saw a 6.9% jump to $89.93 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude climbed 6.7% to reach $84.60 per barrel. Just last week, the price of crude oil had reached a two-month peak, surpassing the $100 per barrel mark.
