Number of Indians with ₹100 crore+ income surges 300% in five years
The government shared in the Lok Sabha that the count of individuals in India reporting an income of ₹100 crore or higher has climbed by more than 300% over the last five years, reaching 576 for the 2025-26 assessment year. This figure stood at 142 during the 2021-22 period. The government also pointed out that the term 'billionaire' lacks a legal definition under both the current Income-tax Act of 2025 and the previous 1961 legislation.
