North Korea replaces defence chief in significant military shake-up

On Saturday, North Korea removed Defence Minister No Kwang Chol from his position. The move was finalized during a session presided over by leader Kim Jong Un, who appointed Kim Song-gi to take over the role. Beyond his dismissal, Chol also faced a demotion in the party hierarchy, moving to the position of first vice-director of the Munitions Industry Department.
