New ultrafast microscope captures electron movement at quantum limits

Scientists have created a high-speed scanning tunnelling microscope capable of monitoring electron activity at the quantum space-time boundary with both atomic and attosecond precision. By employing carefully synchronized laser pulse pairs, the device successfully recorded electron tunnelling occurring between a metal tip and a silver base. The researchers were able to track electron behaviour by adjusting the duration between these laser pulses.
