New solar-powered tech converts seawater to fresh water without electricity

Researchers in China have engineered a desalination system that utilizes solar energy to transform seawater into drinkable water, eliminating the need for electricity, according to the South China Morning Post. The team estimates that after two years of use, the production cost for this water will be lower than that of store-bought bottled water. Testing of the outdoor prototype revealed that it reached a solar absorption efficiency of 90.2%.
