Scientists at Imperial College London have created what they claim is the globe's first fully biodegradable balloon for parties. The product is engineered to decompose completely in compost in about nine months. Known as Bioloon, the item is made from a mix of natural latex and a biodegradable polymer, skipping the traditional sulphur vulcanisation process. The team behind the invention notes that the balloons are also simpler to blow up.
