Scientists at Xi'an Jiaotong University in China have engineered a tantalum-based alloy capable of enduring heat as high as 2,400°C while maintaining its structural integrity. By incorporating small quantities of hafnium boride into tantalum, the team produced stable hafnium oxide nanoparticles shielded by a boron coating that functions as a protective barrier. This material shows potential for applications in hypersonic aircraft and nuclear power plants.
