New cascade frog species discovered in Tripura named in honor of Kerala social worker Padmini Varkey
Researchers have identified a new species of cascade frog in Tripura, naming it after the late Kerala-based social worker Padmini Varkey, who was fondly known as 'ammachi' or mother. Known as Amolops ammachi, this frog grows to approximately 80 mm and features a light brown complexion with olive-green markings. Additionally, the team discovered the Sendenyu cascade frog in Nagaland and the Amolops bella species in West Bengal.
