New affordable speaker technology targets sound at individual listeners
A team at Pohang University of Science and Technology has created an inexpensive speaker system named MiPAL, designed to beam audio directly to one individual. The device functions by combining audible sound with ultrasound, allowing it to focus audio output into a precise zone. According to the researchers, if this technology reaches the market, it could enable travelers on trains or airplanes to receive customized audio announcements.
